Myles Turner spent his off-day after Thursday's victory against the Grizzlies at Outreach Indiana, a youth homeless shelter that aims to provide stability and transformation. The 10-year Pacers veteran discussed his dedication to continuously providing personal care resources and more to those less-fortunate and how an early experience in his childhood led to the establishment of his non-profit organization, W.A.R.M.
The 7-foot Indianapolis resident has come to call the city his second home, having lived here for the entirety of his professional career. Turner ended his speech explaining how important it is to not only pour into the community financially, but personally too. For the remainder of his time at Outreach you could find the big man hunched over at a table attempting to play Spades.
He and his playing partners shared a laugh over his ignorance to what many deem a common card game. By the end of Turner's visit he left with not only a safe grasp on the rules of Spades but with an immense feeling of gratitude and humility. Members of the administrative and executive teams of Outreach walked Turner throughout the facility, and eventually interviewed with the local news outlet. When asked about the lessons he took from the day Turner quickly responded: "[It] gives you a sense of humility...when you do stuff like this you come back and realize these are the real fans that are pulling for you...coming out here and being [here] in person is the biggest thing for me, just to create that personal connection with somebody, look someone in the eyes...that type of stuff is real."
Turner plans to continue making an impact through W.A.R.M. and collaborating with Outreach Indiana to help the youth community.
